    StackAdapt

My experience in past roles and side-ventures influenced my growing interest in tech and digital advertising. After attending the Tech Crunch Disrupt 2016 Conference hosted in Brooklyn (in addition to the odd Quora article, Elon Musk interview, and Tim Urban "Wait But Why" article) - my perspective on business and where some of the most promising, emerging industries would lie...I knew I wanted to immerse myself in the forefront of new, innovative tech. I came across StackAdapt back in June of 2016 and grew increasingly interested in what this disruptive startup was trying to achieve. A role on the Sales side popped up - and with my technical experience as a digital specialist linked with my business background, I knew this would be a great fit for me. I applied, interviewed, and moved to Toronto for a new endeavour. StackAdapt is a team of ambitious and inspiring leaders and I couldn't be happier having joined this tight knit group!

    Jewelreveal

Jewelreveal was a passion project. Outside of full-time work, my partner and I decided to join the online retail trend. We came up with the idea of subscription jewelry, built a brand, and made it happen. Lots of work (outside of work) but an unbelievable learning experience along the way. Building a business online can be done - all the resources are at our finger tips.

    blackiron agency

Working at blackiron has been such an amazing experience thus far. The team has really welcomed me as a key member. The learning curve has been substantial and the organization has given me tremendous responsibility. Accredited with all relevant Google certifications, I deal primarily with paid campaigns across a variety of platforms. This includes Google Adwords (Search, Display, Remarketing, Mobile, and Video), Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Bing. Working on a team of three, we manage millions of dollars in ad spend for a portfolio of medium to large-sized clients on a local, provincial, and national scale. It's such a great experience working directly with clients to understand their business objectives - and then having the opportunity to create strategic plans for their marketing - and then being in charge of actual execution of these campaigns. Every month, I report on results and then put together a plan to improve. Optimizing and refining - until campaigns are bulletproof...and producing strong results. The approach is full circle, where I get to offer a crib-to-grave solution for all marketing efforts for my clients. We monitor results such as sales growth, search rankings, web traffic, social presence and engagement, digital KPI's (conversions, clicks, impressions, CTR, CPC etc.) and any other client-based goals. Murphy Business Ottawa

I had such an unbelievable time working at Murphy Business Ottawa. I enjoyed the work - I enjoyed the experience - I enjoyed the people. Not only were the partners of this small, Ottawa-based brokerage firm smart - they were the best mentors a University graduate could ask for. Working with this group was the best place to learn. I took on role as Marketing Director, revamping a wide variety of key brand elements for the firm. Everything from new sales material, website, cohesive branding, content, social, process development, videos, presentations etc. I worked side-by-side with President Sandra Harvey, facilitating research and analysis for all clients engaged with our firm. Monster Halloween

BOO! Three of our partners at Murphy Business Ottawa acquired a Canadian-based Halloween chain called Monster Halloween. Part of my contract was to spend two months of the year running this business alongside my manager, Sandra Harvey. For two Halloween seasons, I did everything you can imagine in a fast-paced retail environment. Everything from securing space, setting up shop, hiring and managing up to 80 staff, merchandising, selling, selecting product, managing inventory, dealing with theft, disputes – anything you can imagine. What a learning experience! We ran three locations and did online fulfillments for three big box chains. The business of Halloween is so intriguing. It’s all about preparing the business and its operations for the final weeks of October. Huge upfront capital expenditure is required and 80% of your season sales occur in the final three days. Talk about stress. Check out our Facebook page here...

    Harley-Davidson

Yes, I worked at Harley-Davidson. A company with over 100 years of history and unprecedented success. A company that offers exceptional quality motorcycles and outstanding service. But not just that, they offer a lifestyle, admission into an exclusive community of motorcycle riders, and an experience you cannot get with any other company. For me, I had the pleasure of working within this remarkable organization. Being surrounded by rough….and tough....riders. Anything from nightly rides with co-workers to worldwide motorcycle rallies, this job was straight-up cool. My role: I would do financial analysis of various departments for the Ottawa and Gatineau locations, develop reports and recommendations to improve performance, and present these findings to department managers. It was like I was my own little consultant…what exciting work! I would also examine, monitor, and analyze activities related to the company’s operation, identify unwarranted costs and how these could be mitigated going forward. It was fascinating work and I had an inside scoop on how the company was doing…ALL THE TIME.

    Technology, Engineering, and Management

I was accepted into this multi-disciplinary course, where I was on a team of 3 chemical engineering students, 1 law student, and I was the business student. Our project scope was to recommend alternative methods of transporting heavy oil from Devon Energy to lucrative markets currently not accessible due to pipeline capacity issues. Sounds complicated right? We had to 1) learn about an industry completely foreign to us. 2) Conference call with VP's from Devon Energy on a weekly basis. 3) Conference call with managers from other oil companies, rail companies, pipeline companies, law firms, technical advisors, business advisors on a weekly basis. 4) Meet within our team 2-3 times a week AND 5) Put together a comprehensive outlook of the problem and solution. At the end of the school year, the company flew us out to Calgary for 3 days to present our recommendations to a group of 60 (including VP's, managers, interns), and we delivered them a 90-page report as well. It was an unbelievable experience and the project management skills I learnt from this very course will be invaluable in any business situation. Download here...

    Campus Edge Skate Sharpening

If you were a Queen’s student and played intramural or club hockey, there was likely a point in time where you became extremely frustrated because there was no nearby skate sharpening. The closest was a 20 minute drive and you likely did not have a car. With that in mind, my housemate and I founded Campus Edge Skate Sharpening. We determined the underlying costs involved, revenue potential based off of 1000+ students playing hockey at school, and threw together a business plan. It wasn’t long before we concluded that this was a no brainer. It was an exciting experience and we were operating within a week of having the idea. Our company quickly became well-recognized as the most convenient and affordable sharpening for students.

    CIBC

I moved to Toronto for one summer to partake in an internship at CIBC. My position: “Coordinator in the Special Products Department, Wholesale/Brokerage, Global Operations & INTRIA”. Sounds legit. But what did I really do? In order for big corporate, joint, or individual investment accounts to be opened at CIBC, they first needed to be approved. So myself and three other people would get a huge inflow of investment requests all across the country. We would analyze minimum $100,000 investment proposals and determine whether the documents met CIBC’s standard requirements before they could be approved. The faster you worked, the faster account holder’s could get their investments on the market. This experience was amazing, I met some awesome people, and I got to learn about the back office operations of a major bank. It was interesting to see how fundamental effective controls are to ensure the integrity of this business environment.
